WNC Insurance Providers
Once you enroll in a plan through the federal marketplace, you will need to contact your insurance provider for any further questions about your policy. Make sure your first month premium is paid to activate your account prior to the expected start date for your policy. It’s up to you to make sure your account is paid on time so coverage begins and continues. Your local navigator can also help you with dealing with your insurance company.
Additional Resources
Nationwide and NC State Specific Help is available for help with obtaining affordable care act insurance. After enrollment, if you have any life changes that affect your marketplace account, you will need to report those and update your account. Examples of reportable life changes include: changes in address or contact info, marriage, birth or death in the family, and income changes. Make an appointment with a local navigator to get one-on-one assistance with either initial enrollment or changes throughout the year.
Special Circumstances
Still not getting the answers or help you need? Your local navigator can assist you with marketplace appeals or escalation of your case to the state department of insurance if needed. Make an appointment to discuss your circumstances and get help from a local navigator that you can talk to face to face.

Help for Uninsured
There are still way too many people left without medical insurance. Some are among the poorest who are caught in the NC Medicaid Gap and do not qualify for any financial help. Others just can’t afford to buy insurance (even with subsidies.) We’ve listed some of the free and sliding-scale options in your county here.
